It's the little things in life...

Like a lazy Sunday afternoon, cold glass of wine, chocolate covered strawberries...

I could go on and on.

But today I want to highlight the actual little people and the little furniture that compliements them so nicely! There are some really great, well manufactured and designed pieces out there for your tots, but these are some of my favorites. Not only will they be super stylish and extremely functional- they are virtually indestructable! (so importante)

Charles and Ray Eames, 1945

Harry Bertoia, 1952
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, 1930

Jens Risom, 1941

Eero Saarinen, 1948

So cute, right?!

Have a good day,

I have a tummy ache

...probably because I just ate a whole bag of Haribo gummy bears...
{I did the math, and sadly that is 490 calories}

So worth it.

We had a long presentation this morning-afternoon with a prospective client and I'm WORN out! It's exciting to share what your company is passionate about and entertain a room full of guests. One thought that crossed my mind...that my new position is exactly what I should be doing...at this point in my life, at least!

So tonight I'm thinking a glass of white wine and a bubble bath will do the trick. I'll close my eyes and pretend this is my bathroom...

(from google images)

and I'll have a big old glass of...

Time to go soak away the stress.
Hope you're having a great week!

Getting my bubble bath,

Getting Personal

Good Morning!

The rain is coming down pretty hard outside, which my flower beds will love, but it's the perfect and most relaxing time to write.

I found this website, geez I guess a few years back, and thought I would share the wealth. They have a ton of customizable social stationary: calling cards, notes, invites, and announcements. The style is more retro modern, but they have some really unique designs.

Here are some of my favorite notecards:

From Left to Right:
Eco Rosa, Green $45 for 20 notecards
Birds of A Feather, White $45 for 20 notecards
Poppy, Blue $45 for 20 notecards
Stax, Brown $55 for 20 notecards
Scribble, Pink $45 for 20 notecards
Olive, White $45 for 20 notecards
Pollo Perfecto, Blue $45 for 20 notecards

Aren't they clever and super cute?!
There are several color options for each design
and you can personalize them with your initials, address, phrase, etc.

Off to the gym,

Treasure Hunting

So I'm pirating around...the local antique shops, that is. Yesterday I had some flexibility in my schedule and since I was in the neighborhood, I thought I'd breeze into Butler's Antiques off 8th Ave. You could seriously get lost in there for days and be totally content. Just reading the backs of the vintage postcards made my day. It's neat to capture that little slice of private history all over again.

Anyways, after aimlessly browsing around for a while, my eyes immediately captured a colorful little gem in the linen "department". Upon unfolding what I thought might just be an average printed fabric, I was pleasently surprised. You better believe I snatched it up and held it at the cash counter until I made one more final lap around!

I'm thinking it would be a great jumping off point for my guest bedroom design. I always like starting with something really unique...everything else: the paint scheme, fabrics, accent pieces, etc. just domino affects after it.

Ta-daaaa!!!

It's approximately 30"x 30", velvet
(So much prettier in person!)

Detail

I think I'll make it into a great accent pillow or frame it...it's too beautiful!
Just goes to show, you NEVER know what you might find!
You just have to be open to the idea and creative.

Go Frogs,

First and foremost, Happy almost-Friday!
My weekend forecast shows heavy purple, with a 100% chance of a TCU victory.
(Can you tell it's football season?!)

Last night, while jamming to John Mayer and with my buddy Duke @ my feet, I busted out the Micron pens and got to work on some preliminary sketches for a new project. This is a little moonlight design work for a private ranch house's entertainment patio and fire pit.

:::Duke:::
{Isn't he snuggley?!}

Back to work. I'm still in the conceptual phase, but here's what I have so far:

Front View of Patio
(Cedar columns/fencing, custom branded access gates)

Interior Patio Perspective
(Cedar wrapped steel columns, cedar fencing,
tongue and groove checkerboard ceiling panels)

Stained Concrete Scoring Pattern- Detail
(Grid to match ceiling rafters)

More sketches of the fire pit and custom furniture to come!

Off to Happy Hour,

I wish I had a million walls...

Because I would wallpaper them all.
Just kidding,
but I am really into wall paper right now.

All because I found this great website, Graham & Brown. Ureka! Although it took me a good hour or two of my eyes glued to the screen, I finally decided on the 5 samples I wanted to order. A trial run is absolutely necessary before any design project. These days most companies really make it convenient and affordable for you: little pint sized paint samples, memo samples for fabric, cut sheets for wall paper...etc.

My brain went on remodel overload, but I think I'll start with my guest bedroom (which is in desperate need of a makeover) and maybe do a little accent wall in my dining room. (I painted it a rich plum color about a year ago but methinks it could use a small accessory...and wall paper could be the trick!).

Here were my favorites...as of yesterday...

Divine: Beige ($60/roll)
Guest Bedroom Option

Dotty: Beige and Gold ($60/roll)
Guest Bedroom Option

Manderley: Purple ($60/roll)
Main Dining Room Option

Map: Light Green ($60/roll)
Main Dining Room Option
Sophia: Beige ($60/roll)
Guest Bedroom/Main Dining Room Option

Here is my initial design inspiration.
(from google images)

I'll keep you posted once I get the samples in the mail...
I'll be the one waiting impatiently on my doorstep!

Happy Tuesday,
xoxo-LC

For the Love of Ross

This morning I was crushing on this table, which would be beautiful in my future office btw, and decided to hunt down some more information on the designer. It's often that people forget how things came to be, how the designer dreamt up the idea, and how the original intention of the piece was actually executed.

This article by designboom (an industrial design magazine) is particularly interesting because it really gives a unique insight into Ross' perspective as a person and as a designer. Which most of the time, I feel, people tend to separate. I like the part where A. He talks about the fact that he's digging J.Timberlake's music right now (hilarious and unexpected) B. That he exercises what he calls "organic essentialism"...

You'll just have to read it.

Here are some fantastic images courtesy of Knoll, one of my all time favorite furniture manufacturers.

Playing Dress Up

It's time for a new dresser...currently we are using a hodge podge of storage (I have a dwarf sized Ikea 3 drawer dresser and he has a busted up rustic 3 drawer dresser). No bueno. Not to mention the inconsistent style, constant disorganization, and lack of ample space is driving me bonkers.

Have no fear, Craigslist is here! So I've searched in the DFW/Houston marketplace under the "furniture" tab for approx. 30 minutes and I've found some amazing options. (I'm pumped!) They each have a ton of potential, character, and plenty of needed space...did I mention they're incredibly reasonable in price?! (They each range from $75-350).

And may I present....

This color...{love}

Dining Out

Things are starting to (slowly) cool down here in Texas. I'm sorry, but 110 degree heat just isn't doing it for me...and my hair, geesh. Regardless, it has me day dreaming about romantic, yet festive outdoor rooms. I love to entertain. I think it's so important to surround yourself with good friends, tasty food, and inspiring environments.

These images are definitely going in my "dream house" scrapbook.

Muted, relaxing, and oh so modern

In my top 2

I can see this for a girlie "get-away" luncheon
(One of my favorites)

Rustic, Italian, and Effortless

Now if only I had a green thumb...

Perfect for me and my hunny one night

I'll be adding "beach front" property to my necessity list
